After some travels, he moved to Baltimore, MD where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Carter and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on July 22, 1967. To this union two children were born. He was an amazing husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather.
After a few years of living in Baltimore, Maryland, they relocated to Barnwell, South Carolina and began another part of their lives together. He eventually gained a position with the City of Barnwell Post Office as a City Carrier. Soon afterwards he was promoted to OIC in Vaucluse, SC. Then in 1984, he was promoted to Postmaster in Estill, SC and then on November 18, 1989, he was promoted as the very first African American Postmaster in Allendale, SC. While serving in those roles withing the USPS, Wallace and his beloved wife Dorothy were also owners of Perry’s Cleaning Services, Perry’s Convenience Mart and ‘The Plum Tree’ which was co-owned with his brother-in-law, James Carter.
After his retirement from the USPS, he continued to serve the Barnwell Community in the roles of Barnwell District #45 Transportation Supervisor and then as Barnwell County Constable.
Over the years, Wallace was recognized for various awards and accomplishments, but the greatest was his dedication to his community and the love of his family.
